- Eastern riders leave Lachute, QC, arrive in Plaisance, QC.
- Southern riders arrive in Ottawa, ON.
Tuesday, September 15
- Eastern riders arrive in Gatineau, QC. Join the riders in Parc Jacques-Cartier, corner of Boulevard des Allumettières and Rue Laurier @ 11:30 am (Map). Ride over the Alexandra Bridge to Parliament Hill.
PEDAL FOR THE PLANET IN OTTAWA
Monday, September 14
- 3 pm: Pedal for the Planet riders arrive from Southern Ontario, BC, Yukon and Saskatchewan.
Tuesday, September 15
- 12:15 – 1 pm: Pedal for the Planet Rally on Parliament Hill. Welcome the Pedal for the Planet riders as they converge on Parliament Hill. Cyclists will be riding all the way from Victoria, Whitehorse, Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Regina and other cities.
- 1 – 2 pm: Pedal for the Planet Ride: From Canada to Copenhagen. Join the search for Canada’s missing climate action plan. The ride is a virtual world tour from embassy to embassy, searching for clues for Canada’s missing climate action plan. We will relay our findings to members of the Environment Committee who are debating Bill C-311, the Copenhagen climate bill. Let’s help Members of Parliament design a climate action plan for Canada. - 7 pm: Pedal for the Planet celebration with Marabou at the Rainbow Bistro, 76 Murray Street, Ottawa (doors open at 6:30 pm).
Wednesday, September 16
- 7 pm: Climate film screening, for Pedal for the Planet riders and Members of Parliament.
INTERNATIONAL CAR-FREE DAY
Tuesday, September 22
- Car-Free Day events in Toronto, ON, organized by Sierra Club Ontario Chapter.
To recognize Car Free Day, the City of Toronto and Sierra Club Ontario will be hosting a celebration in Yonge Dundas Square between 11 am and 2 pm. The event will be hosted by Candice Batista, star of A Greener Toronto, and will feature a range of musical guests, as well as exhibits and attractions focusing on car-free transportation.
Toronto Mayor David Miller will proclaim Car Free Day, and update residents on the city’s achievements in sustainable transportation in a speech at 1 pm.
Car Free Day is celebrated by 100 million people on every continent and is supported by the Government of Canada and United Nations, as well as leaders of 1,500 cities around the world. Toronto was the first Canadian and North American city to officially host a Car Free Day in 2001. This year’s event is co-presented with Sierra Club Ontario, a volunteer group committed to environmental advocacy and public education.

Tuesday, September 29
- 10:30 am: Search for Canada’s Missing Climate Action Plan. Meet at the Eternal Flame, to join the search for Canada’s missing climate action plan. Our search brings us to the Environment Committee meeting on Parliament Hill, 11 am – 1 pm (date and time to be confirmed – schedule will be announced later in September). Wear red and join the search crew, bring photo ID for parliamentary security. This event organized by Sierra Club Canada and Sierra Youth Coalition.
